2 - My first SaaS made a sale

Post image

I launched Domnest on October 2nd across Product Hunt, Hacker News, and X (Twitter). Four days later, I made my first sale ( $15.73 ) from a lifetime subscription. Here's how everything unfolded.

Product Hunt Launch

The Product Hunt launch didn't go as well as I'd hoped. Domnest received 10 upvotes and 9 followers, bringing about 100 visitors to the site. Unfortunately, none of them converted to paying customers.

Hacker News

I used a catchy title that actually worked. It drove decent traffic to my app. While no one converted, I received plenty of positive feedback from the community, which was encouraging.

X (Twitter)

This is where things clicked. I'd been building Domnest in public, so most of my followers already knew about the product. I'd been posting updates since day one, which built anticipation and trust.

When I launched, I created a 50% discount on the lifetime deal (reduced from $29 to $14.50) and tweeted about it. One of my followers grabbed the deal immediately. That's how I made my first sale.

What's Next

After launching on October 2nd and making my first sale on October 6th, I paused marketing due to exams. I still get around 20 visitors daily. Some sign up and create accounts, but most don't convert to paying customers yet.

Here's my marketing plan going forward:

  1. Polish the marketing site for higher conversions
  2. Integrate a blog and create content targeting long-tail keywords
  3. Build free tools related to domain management to drive top-of-funnel traffic
  4. Continue building in public on X with occasional updates

Cold Outreach

I'm also planning to test cold outreach to three key audiences who manage large domain portfolios:

  • Freelancers
  • Agency owners
  • Hosting providers

Let's see where this journey takes me 🚀
